THE DAKOTA APARTMENTS AND CENTRAL PARK
Mike at the Dakota Apartment Building at West 72nd and Central Park West.  Below, a shot of the Dakota from the park, taken by Mike.
The Dakota's 65 apartments have had famous owners ranging from Judy Garland and Leonard Bernstein to Boris Karloff (whose ghost is rumoured to haunt the place). John Lennon met his tragic death while living
here.  Yoko Ono still resides at the Dakota to this day.  Also, the film "Rosemary's Baby" was shot on location in this building.

Strawberry Fields in Central Park -- The "Imagine" Mosaic greets visitors at the West entrance of the park.  (Photos of Mike taken by Pamela)
An international peace garden at Strawberry Fields was largely made using gifts received from all over the world. The city of Naples, Italy, donated the mosaic with the word "Imagine" inscribed in the pathway.  It is the only specific tribute to John Lennon within the beautifully maintained yet naturalistic, free-flowing park landscape.  One hundred sixty species of plants are grown within its garden, one from every country in the world.  They include strawberries.

The "Imagine" mosaic is cleaned every day.  To no one's surpruse, it is frequently the repository of pictures, cards, letters and other tributes to John Lennon who was killed not far from this spot on December 8, 1980.
